Truth about Truth

Last week we talked about the false thinking about truth. The world today believes that there is no such thing as absolute truth. The question then becomes, "Is that true?" If that is true, then their argument goes out the window. If it's false, then there is no way we should believe it. Either way, the statement is wrong. Unfortunately, almost 80% of young people blindly accept this statement. They think that truth is subjective and therefore changes depending on their situation and how they feel. That's why it's ok for them to lie to their parents in order to get out of trouble. That's why its ok for them to cheat on a test if they need to get a good grade. This type of thinking leads to chaos and destruction. There is absolute truth and it is revealed in Jesus Christ. Jesus, God the Son, said that He is the way, the truth, and the life and no one can come to the Father except through Him.

What do you believe about truth? What are some questions that you might have about truth and how it applies to your life? What questions about truth do you wrestle with?

As for the first question...Language is dynamic, meaning that it is always changing. The way we describe things have changed and we attach different meanings to the same word or object. For instance, what I call pop, you call soda. Same drink, different way of describing it. The translations we have come as a result of the different meanings attached to the original words.

Most of the versions we have available have a high degree of harmony and convey the same general message of God’s Word, but will use some of their own distinctive phrases and words.

Quick answer:
1. Language changes
2. We are still learning about what the Greek and Hebrew meant in those days.

To answer the second question refer to John 8:44.
