Truth about Music

Last Wednesday we took a look at music and how influential it is in our lives. The truth about music is this...The main reason we have music is to glorify God. We were created to give Him praise, and we were created to worship Him. The problem is that we view everything with a Hellenistic/consumer mentality that caters to our flesh. Music has become more about entertainment than about worship. With that being said...all music can be broken down into good or evil. It is either godly or ungodly. There is no gray area on the matter. Why? Because all music has a purpose and if that purpose isn't to glorify God or teach us about His nature and thus pointing us to Him, then it distracts us and focuses our attention in another area. The world has a message in their music that doesn't line up with the word of God and because we allow it into our lives it has messed us up. My prayer is that you will carefully exam the music that you allow into your life.

What do you think about music? Do you view it as good or evil? What are some questions that you have about music?

Truth about Truth

Last week we talked about the false thinking about truth. The world today believes that there is no such thing as absolute truth. The question then becomes, "Is that true?" If that is true, then their argument goes out the window. If it's false, then there is no way we should believe it. Either way, the statement is wrong. Unfortunately, almost 80% of young people blindly accept this statement. They think that truth is subjective and therefore changes depending on their situation and how they feel. That's why it's ok for them to lie to their parents in order to get out of trouble. That's why its ok for them to cheat on a test if they need to get a good grade. This type of thinking leads to chaos and destruction. There is absolute truth and it is revealed in Jesus Christ. Jesus, God the Son, said that He is the way, the truth, and the life and no one can come to the Father except through Him.

What do you believe about truth? What are some questions that you might have about truth and how it applies to your life? What questions about truth do you wrestle with?

Truth. Seeing Black and White in a Gray World

Hey all,

We are starting a new series to finish out the 2008 year about truth. Hopefully this series will get you thinking about what truth is all about, and how the current worldview is very different from the Biblical worldview. As we go through this series, I want to encourage you to post your thoughts and questions you have about Christianity and life. At the end of the series, December 17th, we will have a question and answer night where I will take and answer questions that are posted on this site.
