So...like either it was PC on Sunday or you Wed. night...someone said even disney music was bad. Were they referring to the new stuff or the old music (ie: Beauty & the Beast, Snowhite, etc). And on the classical side (being a musician myself), are classical pieces that weren't composed for the church considered "evil" then...? I understand the whole "spirit behind it" thing, but how does it apply in those cases?

see when PC talked bout music and stuff he said it is not just the lyrics that can be bad. It is the spirit behing the music. So if you were to take a christian song and a secular song of the same style and do the plant test thing without the words what would the difference be?

How about some songs that are a good message or "kiddy" Disney songs? And what about the songs that are meaningless like Hardware Store from Weird Al.

All music has a purpose and a message behind it. ALL music does. There is no such thing as meaningless music. Sometimes you have to go really deep to discover what the meaning of the song is. Sometimes it was written just to make money. The lie from the enemy is that we can listen to what we want to because it doesn’t explicitly come out and say that God is evil, etc. The point I am trying to make is that we were created to worship God with our music, not to draw attention to ourselves.
Psalms 9:11 tells us to sing praises to the Lord, not to sing about Beauty and the Beast or about living in an Amish paradise, but praise God and tell of what He has done in your life. This doesn’t mean that we can’t tell true stories about things we went through in our lives or about things that happen in everyday life, but that we need to bring everything back to Jesus and how He has helped us in those times. David did this continually in the Psalms. Our music and our focus should be on Jesus and no one else! All music that doesn’t point us towards God points us away from Him. God inspires us to sing about Him, and the devil inspires us to sing about hate and the things that God opposes; therefore, music is either good or evil. It either glorifies God or it doesn’t.
Steps to determining meaning behind music
1. Dig deep behind the music you listen to and find out why it was written and what the meaning behind the song was intended for.
2. Pray that God will reveal to you the spirit behind the music you are listening to. Trust the conviction of the Holy Spirit.
3. Be careful what you allow into your life through your ears and eyes, guarding your heart in everything.
Challenge: Try listening to only praise and worship music for an entire month and see what happens. -
